Rishikesh has historically been the cradle of yoga learning and teaching. The great Himalayas and the Holy Ganges inspire higher thinking and meditative reflections to the true seeker. Rishikesh resonates with a rare spiritual energy that induces a passion for the learning of yogic philosophies. Spiritual awakening through the yogic way of life is the common thread that runs through all humanity that converges here. The human mind is programmed for union and yet we are constantly thinking in terms of exclusion and separation. I don’t know if this is a socially created thought-pattern or if it serves some biological function, but either way it is disturbing. Whenever I have asked my master: ”What is right; this or that?” he has given me one of his gentle smiles, shaken his head, making the grey curls bounce, and answered: ”Jenny, it is not either or but as well as…”
Perhaps…

What is the value of a different perspective? It is priceless, of course. But yesterday, for only 2500 rupees I got a new perspective on my life, going on a day trip to Mussoorie.
I got in the taxi at 10.30 am, with an inner cat of frustration clawing in my chest. My driver, the ”sugar cane man” who has picked me up from Delhi the past times, was greeting me across the Laxman Jhula bridge with a smile. The familiar scent of spices and petrol in the car hit my…

Today I was sitting by the Ganga again, meditating on happiness and how come I am becoming happier and happier here in spite of unchanged circumstances? What is happiness and how can we maximize our lives to become as happy as possible? The biggest obstacle in achieving happiness seems to be misinterpretation of the nature of it. We tend to think of happiness as some sort of external blessing or independently existing condition; as if suddenly a DHL delivery guy would be knocking…

As I was casually surfing the internet this morning I came across three advertisements from a hospital in Thailand (first of all: is it ethical at all for hospitals to advertise? Shouldn’t they shut down the marketing department and invest in new equipment instead!?) encouraging you to choose your baby’s gender before you get pregnant. The slogan which provoked me the most was: "Be a confident mum! Choose your baby's gender BEFORE pregnancy! Gender Selection…
Just a couple of days ago I was talking to my husband about how fully aware I am that I have a very fortunate life, we have moved to a new city were we found a nice house which was an amazing change giving that we have always lived in apartments, I have been able to meet amazing people, I have found the opportunity to volunteer at the YMCA as a yoga teacher for kids which I love, and everything is going on pretty well in our lives.…
Yoga styles today vary from gentle to strenuous although all share three common elements those being asanas (poses), pranayama (breathing) and dhyana (meditation). Yoga and dhyana are well known to be stress-reduction techniques and possible treatments for depression and anxiety. There have been many studies conducted that have verified this. But how do we take these techniques from the mat and out to the streets so that it may be useful to our…
Today I would like to bring up the topic of attitude. Not about having a positive attitude, not about the power of mind, but of the benefit of sometimes having no attitude. I have had an attitude towards things and people all my life.
Attitude is something that helps shape both the ego (-) and our unique expression (+), so as we grow up we need to have an attitude. We need to decide where we’re going what we like, what we don’t like, to mold our lives into how we want…
If I could turn back the clock one year, what would I do at this precise moment? I would have lunch at Krishna Cottage with some friends from my TTC, unknowing of what would lie ahead. The wonderful guys working in the kitchen would be carrying out pots and trays with steaming vegetables, dall and rice. Some students would sit in silence, contemplating Roshan’s philosophy lecture, others would be preparing for going down to Ganga for a bath or going shopping in Ram Jhula or Laxman…
What is the key to having a miraculous life? A life where we are constantly surprised by unexpected positive events or experiences? Miracles happen all the time, all over the world to every one of us, almost on a daily basis. There’s really nothing extraordinary about miracles, it just about whether we notice them or not. Whether we allow our mind to see the natural becoming supernatural and the supernatural becoming natural.
It is in our mind that we determine what we…
